Travel is in my bloodline. I come from a generation of travelers and have family living in Canada, Jamaica, America, France ,Australia, Saudi Arabia and England. It is not a hobby, it is a lifestyle choice and traveling and working overseas in the most incredible of places is how I have chosen to live my life. I started this blog and do very little in regards to publicizing so I am chuffed to be nominated for an award by another blogger called Megan who runs The traveling teacher.
Like myself she travels and works within education her blog gives handy tips for people who travel and she has so far covered luxurious locations such as the Caribbean, Peru, China, Paris and the Amazon. Teachers salaries don’t stretch massively but with her tips you will be buzzing around the world.
What is the Liebster award?
The Liebster award is like a chain letter of Love. Liebster is a German world meaning several different things beloved, sweetheart, dearest. It is an award that exists solely online and you need to be nominated by another blogger. So now it’s my turn to spread some ‘Ich Liebe Dich (I love you). The only sentence I can recall from High School Deutsch.
Question and Answer Time!
What was your first travel destination?
My first travel destination without the parents was when I was 16. I went backpacking for 2 weeks across Eastern Europe with my friends Nicola and Naomi. We went to Poland, Hungary, Bratislava, Vienna, and Czechoslovakia. It really was a great trip and huge learning curve.
Whats the scariest most extreme thing you have ever done?
I think the scariest thing I have ever done was skinny dipping in the Gulf in the Northern Territory. It is crocodile infested and I can’t swim. I didn’t feel scared at the time … (only that night when I saw a dozen glistening eyes peering at me on the beach). I then thought… oh they really are in the sea.
Who inspires you to travel the world?
My brother. The last conversation before he suddenly passed away was us talking about travel. He wanted to go to Ohio and I wanted to live in Australia. He said ‘go do it’….. So I did and I have never looked back.
If you can go anywhere in the world where would it be?
This is really hard for me to answer because there are still a lot of places I want to visit. I don’t want to give a cliche answer because a lot of locations really are accessible. I have visited every continent except the Antarctic. I would love to travel the whole of Africa. Visas are really difficult to get for some of the countries within Africa and some parts are really dangerous. But it’s so beautiful and untouched.
What is the best memory you have had whilst traveling?
Being out in the middle of the Indian Ocean for a week on a commercial fishing boat. You can’t buy that experience. I was out at sea with no WiFi just the ocean and the crew. The marine life is amazing! Unreal. I loved hearing the sound of the ocean at night and being rocked to sleep by the waves.
What was the last country you visited?
Canada- Vancouver BC and Whistler. Write up coming soon!
If you could take anyone on your travels who would it be?
My nephew because he would love some of the places I have been to. He was talking about Chinese New Year a few weeks ago. I told him how I celebrated Chinese New Year in Singapore. Secondly, my mum she is not really one for travel, but I would like her to see the locations I have seen. I do miss at times sharing my travel experiences with someone.
Top 3 favourite places you have been?
- Maldives (the sea life is amazing)
- Brazil ( beaches food culture and dancing)
- Western Australia (The coast line and history as you travel further up the coast is unreal)
What is the most amazing thing you have seen whilst traveling?
I was invited on to Aboriginal closed land (closed to tourism). I was sitting on the beach under a whistling tree and I watched 2 young local girls spear fishing. It was like a ritual dance the way they spun round and hurled the spears into the ocean as the sun set. It was just so incredible to see. For me that is what travel is all about. Watching people in their natural habitat continuing traditions.
